Leading business organisations in Glasgow and Shanghai have agreed to strengthen international trade links between the two cities following a visit by senior Chinese business leaders.
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pudong sub-council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai (CCPIT Shanghai).
Pudong New Area is home to Shanghai’s first-of-its-kind pilot free trade zone (FTZ), created in 2013 and offering the most supportive business environment in the city. The 1,210-square-kilometre district has a population of 5.8 million across 12 sub-districts and 24 towns.
A total of 26 senior representatives from 24 Shanghai organisations took part in the delegation to Glasgow, where they met with the Lord Provost and enjoyed a tour of the City Chambers.

The Chinese delegation included the Pudong International Chamber of Commerce, SAAME Tools (SHANGHAI) Import & Export Co., Ltd, and Shanghai Real Trading Co. Ltd.
The Glasgow side included representatives from Prioto, StudAR, Gerard M Burns, Brain Innovation, Volt Group, TS Europe, the Innovation School at the Glasgow School of Art, the University of Glasgow, Radisson RED, Bank of China, and MyLanguageConnection.
“Glasgow Chamber of Commerce would like to extend a special thanks to Alex Harvie, Head of City Marketing for Destination Glasgow, for her support and the staff at Glasgow Airport for their assistance,” the business organisation said in a statement.
