The UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) is considering an increase in import duties imposed on ceramic tableware and kitchenware from China.

The TRA, which investigates whether trade remedy measures are needed to counter “unfair import practices and unforeseen surges of imports”, said it had initiated an interim review of the existing measure.

Despite the imposition of duties ranging from 13% to 36%, the volume of imports from China has increased by 22% between 2023 and 2025.

Jessica Blakely and Carmen Suarez, co-chief executives of the TRA, said: “The TRA is initiating an interim review in response to evidence of continued dumping from China.

“The TRA’s responsiveness to the change in market circumstances is just one example of how it is meeting the government’s strategic steer for a more accessible, assertive and agile trade remedies system.”

There is a deadline of 4 August 2026 for businesses who may be affected by the investigation to register their interest.
